Job description
WE ARE TRADITIONAL:
A progressive company with offices in downtown Los Angeles, California that has extensive experience in all areas of the legal cannabis industry. We have developed world-class facilities and vertically integrated businesses for the production, manufacturing, distribution, and sale of cannabis.
Position Overview:
The Cultivation Technician performs all cannabis cultivation functions, from propagation, feeding, irrigation, pest control, trimming, harvesting, drying, and curing. Cultivation technicians must be flexible and ready to adapt to the needs of the operations to address nutritional deficiencies, pests, disease, and changes in protocol. Successful Cultivation Technicians are systematic, organized, patient, and collaborate and follow operational standards and directives while maintaining a safe work environment.
General Duties (Not Exhaustive of all Duties)
- Perform routine functions as scheduled and assigned by the Cultivation Manager.
- Conduct inspection of feeding and irrigation systems to ensure continuous operation.
- Maintain optimal environmental conditions through routine maintenance and calibration of sensors and controlling equipment.
- Take remedial action to eliminate pests and contaminants from cultivation areas.
- Adjust supplemental and primary lighting controls according to the schedule and developmental stage of the crop.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and manufacturing best practices.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures and regulatory requirements for cultivation.
- Maintain a positive work environment conducive to cooperation, trust, and respect.
- Responsible and accountable for tight quality control through every phase of production.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitization of all work areas, including nurseries and storage areas.
- Store and transport products to designated areas as requested.
- Perform other related work as assigned by the Cultivation Manager.
Daily Tasks: (Not Exhaustive of all Tasks)
- Inspect plants for mold, fungus, disease, bugs, or other pest and pathogen issues and report issues to the Cultivation Manager.
- Maintain quality control of all plants and production.
- Assist with plant propagation, trimming, and inspection.
- Assist with execution of production and harvest plans, including drying and curing duties following harvest
- Ensure proper care of plants through watering, feeding, monitoring the environment, as needed.
- Assist with and follow crop production plan, including established integrated pest management program (IPM).
- Develop proficiency and follow safety practices with the operation of equipment, fertigation systems, environmental controls, water distribution system, security system, etc., which includes performing preventative maintenance tasks, troubleshooting malfunctions, and assisting with repairs.
- Enter required plant information in METRC reliably and consistent with regulation standards.
Collaboration
- Communicate discrepancies and issues to the Cultivation Manager.
- Support other cultivation technicians in completing all necessary functions of the operations.
- Keep all work areas tidy to promote a safe and functional work environment.
- Work with team members to develop, learn, and implement new systems.
Technology and Other Requirements
- Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Knowledge of cannabis cultivation and genetics is a plus.
- Ability to collect and record accurate production data.
- Ability to manage workload independently, effectively.
- Ability to exercise initiative, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Ability to communicate clearly, honestly, and effectively with staff and management in all situations.
- Ability to perceive and meet the needs of the team with moderate direction.
- Ability to maintain high standards in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment. High level of patience and flexibility.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations.
- Basic computer literacy, emailing, document creation.
- Working knowledge of computer programs as described.
- Must be at least 21 years old and pass a criminal background check.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work may require prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate a computer, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing. Requires close vision with the ability to see color and adjust focus. Lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly using smart lifting techniques. Requires ability to wear PPE for long periods.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is high-energy, fast-paced, and, due to the nature of the current regulatory landscape, often highly stressful. Work is performed in a busy cannabis nursery and cultivation facility. The facility areas are very loud due to fans and filtration systems; work areas can fluctuate between cold and hot temperatures. Cultivation technicians handle chemicals found in a crop production facility (e.g., fertilizers). Available to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.
