This part-time position as a Teaching and Research Associate opens doors to either an academic career or a later transition to a career in business.
What to expect
- Research Life: Collaborate with your colleagues on ongoing research projects at the Institute. Support the Institute's research projects and set up your own, with a focus on advancing research in complex networks, data science, software engineering, and/or distributed & decentralized systems. Benefit from teamwork with intensive research mentoring.
- Write a dissertation: As part of WU's PhD program, you will research your topic and spend one-third of your time writing your dissertation.
- Teaching: Planning, designing and teaching courses, mainly in German, but also in English.
- Supervising students: Advising students and co-supervising their bachelor theses.
- Build a personal network: Use the pre-doc phase to start building your personal network with contacts in research, industry, and business. Benefit from participation in international scientific events and research visits in our international network of research and industry partners.
- Support the institute with organizational and administrative tasks
What you have to offer
- Academic degree: You have graduated or will soon graduate with a master's degree that qualifies you for enrolling in a doctoral or PhD program at WU in one of the following subject areas:
- Computer Science
- Business Informatics (Information Systems, Business Informatics, Data Science)
- Information Technology
- Software Engineering
- Social and Economic Sciences (with a focus on applied Computer Science, Data Science, Business Informatics)
- Language skills: You are fluent and able to express yourself very well in both spoken and written German and English. Depending on your current proficiency level, your German language skills can also be improved on the job.
- Additional skills: Experience and intermediate to very good skills in at least one of the following areas are an advantage:
- Programming (e.g. R, Python)
- Hands-on experience working with Data Science projects using real-world data;
- We also appreciate:
- Teaching experience (e.g. as a tutor or teaching assistant)
- General interest in complex systems: network science, social network analysis, computational social science, machine learning, and/or data science in general.
- Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You have experience in using multimedia teaching and learning formats or are at least willing to learn.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,457.98 (14 times per year, which amounts to a minimum annual gross salary of €34,411.72). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
