EHS Manager [Sweden]


 

Summary

The EHS Manager will be a leader in the development, deployment and continuous improvement of programs and systems that support environmental, health and safety excellence. Fosters a culture of proactivity, accountability, engagement and sustainability through robust programs and processes with the primary goal of reducing loss and liability. This key role will lead EHS matters to ensure the Company meets or exceeds legislative, corporate and industry requirements, as well as best practice standards. This position reports to the Plant Manager.

This will require minimal travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the development, implementation, and management of safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable environmental standards.
  • Manage workers’ compensation loss control program, which includes monitoring claim levels, reducing costs, and early return to work.
  • Manages sustainability efforts to minimize hazardous/non-hazardous waste, water emissions, air emissions, energy consumption, and other related environmental compliance activities.
  • Champion for proactive and preventative safety measures, along with leading the site safety committee.
  • Leads supervision to complete thorough and timely incident investigations that identify countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Partner with the site leadership to promote a proactive safety culture focused on incident prevention and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain, review and report EHS performance, identifying opportunities for improvement along with implementing preventative and corrective actions as required.
  • Continuously monitoring and adapting safety procedures and operations to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Conduct internal EHS audits to identify risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Work with site leadership team to ensure all key EHS operational controls are in place and EHS action items are resolved on a timely basis.
  • Deliver and/or coordinate all regulatory or company required testing and training.
  • Manage and maintain site specific internal EHS systems and reporting tools.
  • Ensure timely coordination of all regulatory or company required testing and training, including industrial hygiene testing as assigned.
  • Manages compliance of all local, state, and federal EHS regulations, permitting, training, reporting, and corporate policies/procedures for assigned location.
  • May manage one direct report in a site facility role.

Expected results

The EHS Manager ensures employees follow health and safety regulations and promotes the wellbeing of their team. Duties include using safety research to prevent and eliminate workplace hazards, documenting and investigating accidents in the workplace, and executing corrective actions and containment with a sense of urgency.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in occupational safety, environmental science, or a closely related field. CSP certification or desire to achieve is preferred.
  • Attention to detail and capability to analyze data and make sound conclusions.
  • Strong aptitude for organization, prioritization and managing multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Must be hands-on with a desire to be on the plant floor working directly with employees.
  • Capability to patiently partner and teach legacy employees what good standards look like.
  • Ability to actively participate in team-oriented processes influence team engagement and to drive team decision making to conclusions/solutions.
  • Must possess a theoretical and practical knowledge of all state and federal regulatory standards.
  • Knowledge of current safety and loss control practices is essential.
  • 6 years of relevant EHS experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Physical Demands - while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.

Work environment – The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
